Bishop Elementary School

Community Support

The community, including the City of Sunnyvale, local corporations, community organizations, individual community members, families, and parents, provide tremendous support to the school in the way of supplies, equipment, monetary donations, and volunteer time. The City of Sunnyvale coordinates their services (Library, Theater Arts, Parks and Recreation, Fair Oaks Mental Health Department, Public Safety, Fire Safety, Emergency Operation Center) with the school.

Fire Safety Contest. All students participate in the fire safety poster contest sponsored by the Elks Club and the City of Sunnyvale Safety Department.

Sertoma Essay Contest. Upper grade students participate in an essay contest that develops research and thinking about family history and origins. The contest is sponsored by the Sertoma organization.

Red Ribbon Week. All students participate in discussions and activities, such as poster contests, to promote drug prevention awareness.

Green Circle. Third grade students participate in a series of workshops to develop social skills in role-playing presentations.

Yahoo Buddies. Corporate sponsor, Yahoo, visits various classrooms on a continual basis to interact with students.

School Board Presentations. Each year Bishop presents school activities at one of the School Board meetings, including a performance by our students.

District Art Program. Each year student artwork from Bishop is displayed at our school district office.
