Walk-a-thon 2006 "Charge into the Future"

Friday, March 31, 2006 1:00-6:00pm

Our Cherry Chase annual Walk-a-thon is fast approaching! This is our major PTA fundraiser event of the year. Money raised by this event is used to provide many enrichment programs for our students, including art, in-class and after-school music, math and reading labs, technology, field trips, assemblies and the much needed classroom supplies. In addition to raising the needed funds, the Walk-a-thon also helps develop a vital sense of community by bringing Cherry Chase School’s families together. This sense of community supports and strengthens the excellent learning environment at Cherry Chase Elementary School.

Congratulations to Blair Biggar who won the drawing contest for the Walk-a-thon t-shirt! Blair's design appears below:

Theme and Goal
The theme of this year's Walk-a-thon is "Charge into the Future!" This year, we hope to raise $38,000 for our school. The goal for each student is get at least $50 or more in pledges.

Donation Pledges
Prior to the Walk-a-thon, students will ask their family, friends and neighbors for pledges and have them write their pledges on the sponsor form/envelope. The donations can be a pledge to pay a certain amount for each ¼ mile lap that the student walks or a flat amount. Students should collect the flat amounts immediately and keep them in the envelope. After the Walk-a-thon is over and the laps are counted, the students will go back to sponsors who pledged to pay a certain amount per a lap to collect the remaining donations. After all the money is collected, the student turns it in to their teacher.

Rewards for Top Earners & Walkers
We have many exciting prizes and rewards for those students who raise the most money and/or walk the most laps. You can click on the “Prizes and Rewards” link above to see what’s available.

Silent Auction & Raffle
Come prepared to shop! Our Silent Auction and Raffle tables have thousands of dollars worth of generously donated items, services and gift certificates. Each of our twenty-four classrooms will also be donating one or more baskets based on a theme they select for their class. Depending on the theme, the baskets are filled with toys, games, puzzles, crafts and many exciting items. There’s something for everyone! So, bring your cash and checkbook and have a good time shopping and supporting your school at the same time!

Plant Sale and Kid’s Garage Sale
Due to popular demand, we will have both the Plant Sale and Kid’s Garage Sale again this year. All the plants and items in the garage sale are donated by Cherry Chase families. So, if you have any plants (indoor or outdoor), children’s books, school supplies, toys, puzzles, games, art & crafts, software, CDs, videos, electronics and sports equipment that you no longer want, please consider donating them for our Plant Sale or Kid’s Garage Sale.

Food
Save your appetite for a feast! We will be selling BBQ hamburgers, hot dogs and pizza. You can either buy them individually or as a meal, which comes with a bag of chips and a drink. We also will have nachos, cotton candy, snow cones and popcorn. In our baked goods area, we will have cupcakes, cookies, brownies and many other sweets.

Everyone’s Help is Needed!

In order to make this Walk-a-thon a success, we will need everyone’s help. Here’s what you can do to help:

• Arrange to take the day off or at least part of the day off to help out. We will need many parent volunteers that day.
• Purchase a Walk-a-thon t-shirt and walk in style with your child or children on the day of the event.
• Encourage your children to ask family, friends and neighbors to sponsor them.
• Donate a separate individual item for the silent auction, such as babysitting, a gift basket, paid for dinner with a teacher, etc.
• Shop at the Silent Auction and Raffle and purchase food during the Walk-a-thon.
• Find out if your company has a gift-matching program to increase your contribution.
• Lastly and most importantly, please sponsor your child!
