IT IS CONFERENCE WEEK

Just a reminder this is conference week. Student dismissal will be at 11:35 every day this week.

I hope everyone has set a conference time with the teacher/s to discuss student achievement. I have reviewed the report cards and appreciate that our Ellis teachers do give many suggestions for how families can help their child reach proficiency. The comment I saw on most report cards was that children need to read aloud to an adult. So often, at Student Success Team meetings, parents will report that their child is reading for twenty minutes each evening. But, when asked if they have heard their child read aloud, the answer is often ,"No". Listening to your child read gives an adult a great deal of important information about their young reader. Does your child read smoothly? Does your child read with expression? Does your child correct himself? Can your child tell you about what s/he has just read to you? Simply sitting with an open book for twenty minutes does not mean your child is reading. Please take some time to listen to your child as s/he reads. Remember that you serve as a model for your child. Let your child see you reading for work and for pleasure. That sends a powerful message to a young reader!

Conference time will bring suggestions for students who may be assisted through our Kids Learn After School program.Teachers will be recommending students who will benefit from this program to assist them in reaching their potential. Please consider the role this program can play in helping your child at school.

Our Eagles Patrol is sponsoring a cereal drive to assist the Sunnyvale Community Services Center. Our goal is 1,000 boxes of cereals! Please assist in this community outreach program that allows our students to make a difference in the Sunnyvale community.

The Fairwood Explorer Program is holding an Information Night on Tuesday, November 15 at 6:30 in the Media Center at Fairwood School.

This week I will be attending several conferences as well as a Principals Planning meeting on Thursday from 9-12:00.

Please remind students the new trimester begins on Monday for attendance rally eligibility. Mrs. Lacy and I have scheduled the Perfect Attendance Rallies for next Monday, November 21st for students who had zero absences and zero tardies the first trimester.

School Site Council will meet next Tuesday, November 22 at 11:00 .

I hope that everyone has a meaningful conference. Please remember that you are always able to request a meeting with your child's teacher. Conference Week ensures that all parents have been provided an opportunity to review their child's progress and be able to ask questions of the teacher/s.
