Summer School

Opportunities for Discovery & Growth

Sunnyvale is partnering with the Stanford Teacher Education Program to implement a five week summer school program for students entering first through eighth grade.  Each classroom is run by an experienced master teacher who is assisted by Stanford student teachers.  The focus of the summer program is to foster a love of learning by developing students' confidence in themselves as learners.  Students stregthen their problem solving and critical thinking skills through a focused curriculum.

Student goals include:

  • Developing confidence in themselves as learners
  • Improving literacy and numeracy skills
  • Preparing students to meet district and state standards
  • Strengthening problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Providing opportunity for students to experience a variety of instructional strategies

Space in the summer program is limited and each site is provided with a limited allocation. The principal of the school oversees the identification and prioritization of student placement in this program.
