Kids Learning After School (KLAS)

The Sunnyvale School District’s KLAS – Kids Learning After School Program is made possible through a grant from ASES (After School Education and Safety Program, California Department of Education). The funding is provided to promote local partnerships between schools and local community resources to offer literacy, academic support, enrichment, and safe constructive alternatives for students from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Every student attending a public school operating an ASES program is eligible to participate in the program, subject to program capacity (EC Section 8482.6).

KLAS provides a safe and enriching environment for students to receive help with academic, physical, and arts/enrichment activities which are based on the needs and interests of participating students at seven school sites within the district. A nominal fee is requested to help supplement the attendance based grant.

KLAS program goals include:

  • Supporting student academic achievement to meet state standards
  • Increasing self-esteem and improving life skills
  • Offering positive interaction in a safe and enriching environment
