Welcome to Sunnyvale's Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment Program (BTSA).
Here you will find information regarding our beginning teacher support program and mentors. Our Sunnyvale program supports a full release model whose mentors have a primary focus to support our new teachers, which means that our mentors are not currently teaching in the classroom.Sunnyvale's induction program is connected to the Silicon Valley/Santa Cruz New Teacher Project, which in turn is connected to the New Teacher Center. Mentors attend forums where they receive continuous professional development on best teaching practices as well as facilitating and mentoring.Mentors meet with their teachers regularly to reflect on their practice and guide them with incorporating best pracitices into their teaching. We're proud to offer our teachers the Formative Assessment System (FAS), which includes setting professional goals, analyzing student work, writing lesson plans, and implementing classroom management strategies.New teachers, depending on whether it's their first or second year in the BTSA program, attend different seminars over the course of the year that are linked to the California Standards for the Teaching Profession and the California Induction Standards created by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Please visit some of our other pages for more information.
