Homework Policy:
Homework is due on the due date! Late assignments will only be honored if they are pre-approved by the teacher and points will be deducted or assignments will be lowered one full grade, depending on the assignment. |

Spelling Homework:
 Spelling homework
assignments will be given at the beginning of the week, for the entire week. All the homework is due on Friday, before the spelling test. A spelling pre-test will be given on Monday and the final test will be given on Friday. Any incorrect spelling words on the pre-test must be written three times each and turned in with the spelling homework on Friday. Missing homework may result in lowered overall spelling score. |
Social Studies Portfolio:
As part of the social studies grade each student will build a cumulative portfolio consisting of all the assignments, quizzes, tests and any work done in the social studies class. Students will need a plastic cover spiral
notebook. He/she will keep all assignments and take notes in this notebook
throughout the year. (Some students may need a second notebook before the end of the year.) The social studies portfolio will be collected periodically throughout the quarters for a grade. The completed social studies portfolio will be collected and given a final grade at the end of the year. The portfolio will be also be a great study guide to use for the high school exit exam. So it is very important to keep a neat and organized notebook! In addition the overall quarter will be evaluated by tests, quizzes, projects, and homework. |

 Reading Log:
Each student is required to read at least 20 minutes every evening and must keep track of his/her minutes on a reading log. Reading logs will be collected
weekly and must have a parent/guardian's signature to receive credit. This is part of the Language Arts grade and in most cases the student will be reading an Accelerated Reader book. Accelerated Reader books can be obtained in the Columbia Middle School Library or the Sunnyvale Public Library. |
