A Message from the
Principal
Three
years ago, Vargas School adopted a uniform dress code, which suggested that
Vargas Students dress in clean, appropriate uniform clothing.
Parents and I have studied the benefits of school uniforms at other schools and have read articles on the benefits of uniforms.
A survey was sent to all Vargas families and the desire for a uniform dress code was overwhelming. Parents view uniforms as an important element of our school environment.
Students will once again be asked to wear school uniforms for the 2006-07 school year.
Parents who do not want their children to wear a uniform must sign a waiver.
Uniformity in dress will provide an environment that will be conducive to learning and lend to the cohesiveness of our children. We believe in our school and our students and feel that uniforms at Vargas will be a positive and effective benefit.
It is much less expensive to purchase uniforms than it is to purchase other school clothing.
It will take children less time in the morning to decide what to wear to school.
Gang-related colors and inappropriate clothing will be eliminated. Competition in dress style and pressure from children to buy expensive and “trendy” clothing will be eliminated.
Uniforms need only be washed; they really do not need ironing.
Teachers and parents agree that students feel a sense of pride and spirit for their school when wearing uniforms. School uniforms foster integration, high morale, and positive self-esteem. Students in uniforms, in general, tend to exhibit healthy feelings for their school, resulting in less graffiti and property damage. Principals and teachers notice that attendance and attitude toward school is much more positive.
