NETS Standard 1:  Use input devices (e.g. mouse, keyboard, remote control) and output devices (monitor, printer) to successfully operate computers, VCRs, audiotapes, and other technologies

Possible Integration Strategies:

a. All curricular as appropriate: The student will use the mouse to manipulate through a piece of educational software or web site.
 
b.  Language Arts: Publishing and illustrating a story using a printer during phases of the writing process.  Creating a story using the computer or participating in an interactive story such as:

NETS Standard 2: Use a variety of media and technology resources for independent and directed learning activities.
 
Possible Integration Strategies:
 
a.  Language Arts:  The student uses decoding strategies- comparing similar words, looking at parts of words to decipher the text.  The student will use software, audiotapes, interactive books and other support media to reinforce sounds and letters.
 
b.  All curricular as appropriate: The student will use simple materials of reference systems to obtain information.

c.  Writing:  Begins to self edit- capitals, periods, spelling functions.  The student begins to use basic word processing, including highlighting blocks of text to make changes, and performing simple editing.

NETS Standard 3: Communicate about technology using developmentally appropriate and accurate terminology.
 Possible Integration Strategies:
 
a. Language Arts:  Listening and Speaking.  The student will organize and make a presentation on a topic.  The student can do a presentation on communication and technology.  View the Apple Bytes web site made by second graders for ideas.

NETS Standard 4:  Use developmentally appropriate multimedia resources (e.g., interactive books, educational software, elementary multimedia encyclopedias) to support learning.

NETS Standard 5:  Work cooperatively and collaboratively with peers, family members, and others when using technology in the classroom.
 
Possible Integration Strategies:
 
1.    History/Social Science Compare and contrast present and past.  Make a classroom chart entitled: How computers and/ or technology help people who supply our daily needs.  All curricular as appropriate: Conduct research projects using many resources.

NETS Standard 6:  Demonstrate positive social and ethical behaviors when using technology.
Possible Integration Strategies:
 
a.  Health and Safety: How to follow the rules.  The student will take turns using the equipment.  He or she will also demonstrate how to use the equipment properly.
 
b.  All curricular as appropriate. With supervision the student begins to conduct basic research on the Internet using sites or search engines and prints information.

NETS Standard 7:  Practice responsible use of technology systems and software.
Possible Integration Strategies:
 
a.  All curricular as appropriate: Understands safety and netiquette issues for using the Internet.  The teacher could conduct a classroom discussion about what information is never to be given out on-line. 
 
NETS Standard 8.  Create developmentally appropriate multimedia products with support from teachers, family members, or student partners.
Possible Integration Strategies:
 
All curricular as appropriate:  The student is aware of advanced multimedia technologies that can be used to enhance projects and presentations.  Using Kid Pix to create slide shows such as biographies, how geography is related to food production, how matter and energy interact, and identifying different shapes…
