NETS Standard 1:  Use keyboards and other common input and output devices (including adaptive devices when necessary) efficiently and effectively.

Possible Integration Strategies:

a.  Reading: The student will identify the topic, main idea, and supporting details.  Using site computer labs with Independent Learning Plans, the student will use technology to reinforce reading and math standards.
 
b.  Writing: The student will recognize nouns and other parts of speech.

NETS Standard 2:  Discuss common uses of technology in daily life and the advantages and disadvantages those uses provide.

Possible Integration Strategies:

a.   History Social Science:  Linking the Past to the Present; Technological Development and Its Impact on this Nation. The student understands that people invent new ways to solve problems and get work done using tools, inventions, and technological advances throughout history.

b.  All curricular as appropriate Writing:  Writing an Informative Essay:  The student will write an essay highlighting the advantages and/or disadvantages that technology provides.

NETS Standard 3:  Discuss basic issues elated to responsible use of technology and information and describe personal consequences of inappropriate use.

    Possible Integration Strategies:

a.  History/ Social Science: Linking the Past to the Present; Highlighting the Citizen’s Responsibility in a Democratic Government. The student will link citizenship with basic copyright laws.  One resource could be the following site:

b.  Language Arts:  The student will select and use appropriate technologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of communication.

c.  All curricular as appropriate:  For example with Ethical Literacy the student understands people’s work can be copyrighted.  He or she knows that copying or possessing copied software may be illegal.  Knows that credit must be given when information is accessed through technology.

NETS Standard 4:  Use general-purpose productivity tools and peripherals to support personal productivity, remediate skill deficits, and facilitate learning throughout the curriculum.

    Possible Integration Strategies: 

For example in Social Studies the class may use simulations to provide students with practice in decision-making, critical thinking, and problem solving.  Examples of simulations include Where in the World is Carmen SanDiego? and The Factory Deluxe.

NETS Standard 5:  Use technology tools (e.g., multimedia authoring, presentation, Web tools, digital cameras, scanners) for individual and collaborative writing, communication, and publishing activities to create knowledge products for audiences inside and outside the classroom.

b.  Computer Operation.  The student continues formal keyboarding, working on increasing speed and accuracy.  He or she can use the finder to move between application programs, is introduced to setting up a spreadsheet, and is made aware that a hard copy paper can be scanned into a digital image of a computer-generated project .

c.  Language Art:  The student uses online resources to extend learning opportunities.

    Possible Integration Strategies:

a.  All curricular as appropriate: Language Arts: The student will identify cause-effect relationships.  For any given project the student will choose the most appropriate form of presentation: slideshow, short stack, creative story, newspaper, web page, poster, sign, or brochure.

NETS Standard 10:  Evaluate the accuracy, relevance, appropriateness, comprehensiveness, and bias of electronic information sources.

    Possible Integration Strategies:

a.  All curricular as appropriate:
The student will select and use the appropriate technologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of communication.
The student will identify uses for technology at school and in various occupations.
Cites computer sources correctly.
The student will show respect for computer systems and files.
The student will critically view different web sites researching author bias
 
b.  Language Arts:
            The student will make inferences form given information.
The student will recognize and differentiate facts and opinions.
