NETS Standard 1:  Apply strategies for identifying and solving routine hardware and software problems that occur during everyday use.

    Possible Integration Strategies: 
 
a.  Computer Operation/ Language Arts: Develop interpretive comprehension by using critical/evaluative thinking skills.
Use a checklist to eliminate routine problems  (i.e. checking power sources, cable connections, software is correctly input…)

NETS Standard 2:  Demonstrate knowledge of current changes in information technologies and the effect those changes have on the workplace and society.

    Possible Integration Strategies:

a.  Language Arts:  The student will use word processors to record ideas, revise, and edit writing.  The student is aware how the personal computer is changing information processing and communication.
 
b.  Science-Environmental Technology has allowed humans to help manage ecosystems.
 
c. All curricular as appropriate. The student understands how factors such as culture and technology influence the perception of places and regions.  He or she is aware that the Internet is revolutionizing education, business and industry.

NETS Standard 3:  Exhibit legal and ethical behaviors when using information and technology, and discuss consequences of misuse.

    Possible Integration Strategies:

a.  Computer Operation:  Information Literacy/Ethical Use: The student will  demonstrate an understanding of copyright laws.

b.  Ethical Literacy. The student will understand issues about control and accuracy of information.
He or she knows that computer hacking, computer piracy, intentional virus setting, and invasion of privacy are illegal.  They realize the penalties include large fines and jail sentences.

NETS Standard 4:  Use content-specific tools, software, and simulations (e.g., environmental probes, graphing calculators, exploratory environments, Web tools) to support learning and research.

    Possible Integration Strategies:
 
a.  Science:  The student could use simulation programs to illustrate scientific principles and discovery.  The student could use software simulations to environmental problems

 

b.  Mathematics:  The student could use simulations to provide students with practice in decision-making, critical thinking, and problem solving.  The student could use graphing calculators or spreadsheets to be targeted in conjunction with the mathematics standards such as using the equipment to represent two numerical variables on a scatterplot.
 
c.  Social Studies. Explore a variety of resource to extend learning. The Internet offers valuable  visits to online Virtual Museums and webquests about Ancient Rome, the Middle Ages and other sites such as:

NETS Standard 9.  Demonstrate an understanding of concepts underlying hardware, software, and connectivity.  The student will use practical applications towards problem solving.

    Possible Integration Strategies:
a.  Mathematical Reasoning:  The student could analyze problems and determine how to break a problem into simpler parts.
 
b.  All curricular as appropriate:  The student knows that computers speed up and extend people’s ability to collect, sort, and analyze data.  Computers are also helpful in preparing research reports and share data ideas with others.

NETS Standard 10.  Research and evaluate the accuracy, relevance, appropriateness, comprehensiveness, and bias of electronic information sources concerning real-world problems.

    Possible Integration Strategies:
 
a.  Language Arts:  The student could locate, organize and interpret information. He or she will critically view a web site by researching the authors and validating the information presented.
 
b.  All curricular as appropriate: In the health atom the student discusses how messages from media and other sources influence health behavior.
