NETS Standard 1:  Use input devices (e.g. mouse, keyboard, remote control) and output devices (monitor, printer) to successfully operate computers, VCRs, audiotapes, and other technologies.

Possible Integration Strategies:

1.    With teacher/parent/peer assistance the student will begin to operate icon menus, start to recognize letters and numbers on a keyboard, and begin to use academic programs.

2.    The student will be introduced to basic computer operating procedures such as using a mouse to point, click and drag, and the proper handling of any software.

3.    The student will operate a tape recorder at a listening post center.

4.    The student will use appropriate software or web resources such as the web site below web to practice letter recognition skills.

NETS Standard 2: Use a variety of media and technology resources for independent and directed learning activities.

Possible Integration Strategies:

1.    Identify, name, match and write lower and upper case letters of the alphabet.

NETS Standard 3: Communicate about technology using developmentally appropriate and accurate terminology.

Possible Integration Strategies

The student begins to name basic computer components, learns their functions, and handles them with care (monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer, double-clicking).

The student can discuss how technology is used at home, including computers, video games, and other electronic media.

NETS Standard 4:  Use developmentally appropriate multimedia resources (e.g., interactive books, educational software, elementary multimedia encyclopedias) to support learning.

Possible Integration Strategies

NETS Standard 5:  Work cooperatively and collaboratively with peers, family members, and others when using technology in the classroom.

Possible Integration Strategies

NETS Standard 7:  Practice responsible use of technology systems and software.

Possible Integration Strategies

1.    The student will demonstrate developmental appropriate techniques when using the keyboard, mouse and software, if appropriate.

2.    Continue to become familiar with the equipment.  The student will be introduced to potential hazards to hardware and software.

NETS Standard 8:  Create developmentally appropriate multimedia products with support from teachers, family members, or student partners.

Possible Integration Strategies

1.    Under teacher supervision the student will be introduced to a web page. 

2.    The student may experiment with drawing programs or simple multimedia programs.

NETS Standard 9:  Use technology resources (e.g., puzzles, logical thinking programs, writing tools, digital cameras, drawing tools) for problem solving, communication, and illustration of thoughts, ideas, and stories.

Possible Integration Strategies

1.    All curricular as appropriate: The student uses the computers applications enriching, reeducating, and extending learning opportunities.

NETS Standard 10:  Gather information and communicate with others using telecommunications, with support from teachers, family members, or student partners.

1.    History/Social Science:  Compare and contrast present and past

2.    The student is introduced to e-mail and the Internet for educational enrichment.  He will be introduced to netiquette and personal safety issues with teacher assistance.
