Lakewood State Preschool

I graduated from San Jose State with a degree in Child and Adolescent Development, I started with the idea of teaching Elementary age children but I started working in an in-home daycare and fell in love with the age group and decided to work in Preschool. I've worked in Preschool since 2003 and throughout that time I was also tutoring kids from Kindergarten to 5th grade. I've worked for the Sunnyvale School District since 2017.

I'm the proud mother of two wonderful kids and in my spare time, I do 10,000 loads of laundry not out of enjoyment but out of necessity.

I started my journey with Special Education in 2005 as a paraeducator after completing my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. During this time I attended classes for a teaching credential to teach children with visual impairments and learned Braille as well as basic orientation and mobility strategies to help individuals with visual impairments independently and safely navigate their environments.

I also began work as a nanny to a family with 4 young children, one of whom had multiple disabilities. I supported this child within their preschool classroom so they could be fully included. It was my experience and a paraprofessional for a student within a typical preschool class that helped me decide where my true passion was: Preschool! I then attended classes specifically for an Early Childhood Special Education Credential and completed the program and received my credential.

I have been teaching Special Education Preschool since 2011. I have also almost completed my Master's Degree with an emphasis on Special Education and Early Childhood and am currently participating in a pilot study through the Santa Clara County Office of Education for embedding instruction for students with IEP’s within a general education classroom.
