Teacher Induction Program (Formally BTSA)

  • The Sunnyvale School District, in partnership with the Santa Cruz/Silicon Valley New Teacher Project (SC/SVNTP), carries out the California State approved Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment (Formerly BTSA) Teacher Induction Program and guidelines of SB 2042 for all of our first and second year teachers.


    Sunnyvale's Teacher Induction Program supports a full-release model where the District's master teachers, with excellent mentoring qualities and leadership abilities, do not teach in the classroom during their term as a Induction Mentor. The Mentor's primary focus is to support our new teachers through the implementation of a quality Teacher Inducation Program, while nurturing the growth and development of the participating teachers.


    The Induction Mentors meet with their assigned teachers (1:16) regularly to reflect on their practice and guide them with incorporationg Best Practices into their teaching. We're proud to offer our teachers the Formative Assessment System (FAS), which includes setting goals, analyzing student work, writing lesson plans, and implementing classroom management strategies. 


    New teachers in the Induction Program attend workshops/seminars over the course of the year that are aligned to the California Standards for the Teaching Profession and the California Induction Standards approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
