El Camino Hospital Foundation
Since the 2008/09 school year, Sunnyvale School District has been fortunate to receive funds to hire two school nurses as a result of a grant from nonprofit El Camino Hospital's Community Benefits Program. The grant was expanded to fund an additional full time health assistant starting in the 2009/10 school year. Our school nurses support student success by providing health care through assessment, intervention, and follow-up for all children within our schools. Chronic conditions, such as asthma, severe allergies, diabetes, epilepsy, obesity and mental health concerns may impact the student's ability to be in school and ready to learn. This grant makes a critical difference in our ability to address the more and more complex medical issues we are seeing every day and to help our students stay in school and be taken care of. We're truly grateful for that opportunity.
