Home-to-School Transportation Program 2025-26 Update

The Sunnyvale School District Home-to-School Transportation (HTST) program continues to grow as an important support system for students and families across the district. During the 2025–26 school year, the program provided transportation services to approximately 775 students across nine school sites, helping improve student access, attendance and daily connection to school.

Program data continues to highlight the positive impact of transportation on student success. Elementary students utilizing HTST experienced 27% fewer tardies than their non-bused peers, representing approximately 475 fewer tardy events. Middle school students using the program also demonstrated improved attendance, preserving approximately 74 additional days of instruction.

To further improve accessibility and support families, the district expanded service in targeted areas by adding new bus stops and addressing safety concerns. Early outcomes from these efforts have been encouraging, particularly at Ellis Elementary School, where students utilizing transportation showed noticeable reductions in absences and tardies.

As the program has grown, the district has also navigated operational challenges related to staffing and system capacity. Despite more than 383 driver absence days during the school year, the transportation team remained committed to safely transporting students through route adjustments, schedule modifications and continued collaboration.

Sunnyvale School District extends its appreciation to its bus drivers and transportation staff, whose daily commitment, care and professionalism are central to the program’s success. The district also recognizes the support of school sites, families and staff who continue to shape HTST into a program that makes a meaningful difference for students.

Looking ahead, the district will continue refining routes, strengthening operations, recruiting additional drivers and thoughtfully expanding services, with a continued focus on safety, reliability and student support.

Registration Memos for the 2026-27 School Year

Families who qualify will receive a registration link directly via email.

While registration will remain open throughout the summer, space is limited. If capacity is reached, registration will close. We strongly encourage families to complete the process as soon as possible to secure a seat for the upcoming school year.

HTST services prioritize students who reside in designated “Safety Areas” within our district boundaries, where conditions may make walking to and from school more challenging. Through a modernized system, the district can better identify and prioritize students who need this support, helping ensure consistent and reliable access to school.

La inscripción para el programa de Transporte de Hogar a la Escuela (HTST, por sus siglas en inglés) para el año escolar 2026–27 abrirá en mayo. Las familias que califiquen recibirán un enlace de inscripción directamente por correo electrónico.

Aunque la inscripción permanecerá abierta durante todo el verano, el espacio es limitado. Si se alcanza la capacidad, la inscripción se cerrará. Recomendamos encarecidamente que las familias completen el proceso lo antes posible para asegurar un lugar para el próximo año escolar.

Los servicios de HTST priorizan a los estudiantes que viven en “Áreas de Seguridad” designadas dentro de los límites del distrito, donde las condiciones pueden hacer más difícil caminar hacia y desde la escuela. A través de un sistema modernizado, el distrito puede identificar y priorizar mejor a los estudiantes que necesitan este apoyo, ayudando a garantizar un acceso constante y confiable a la escuela.
