As we launch into a new school year, I am filled with excitement for the possibilities and growth ahead. Our team in the Sunnyvale School District is dedicated to ensuring every student thrives academically, socially, and emotionally. This year, a central focus is on developing strong readers—for success in school and life.

Across every classroom, our teachers, principals, and staff are committed to:

• Raising student achievement in reading and fostering a love for books at all ages.
• Ensuring all students—especially English learners, students with disabilities, and underserved groups—have the support they need to meet ambitious reading goals.
• Empowering students to set personal learning targets, engage in structured class discussions, and take pride in their academic progress.
• Strengthening the sense of safety, belonging, and leadership for every learner.

We know that the most powerful learning happens when families and schools work together. I invite all families to join us in this reading journey—by reading with children at home, visiting the library, talking about favorite stories, and setting aside time each day for books. Your encouragement and involvement inspire students more than anything else.

Our district offers resources and family events to support reading at home, and we welcome your partnership in making reading both an everyday activity and a shared joy. Together, we can help every student discover the doors that literacy opens.
