Dear Sunnyvale School District Families,

It is with immense honor and profound excitement that I introduce myself as your new Superintendent. My name is Dr. Gudiel R. Crosthwaite, and I am thrilled to join this vibrant community. While I am new to Sunnyvale, I bring with me a wealth of experience, having served as Superintendent of Lynwood Unified School District in Southern California for the past eight years.

During my time in Lynwood, I witnessed firsthand the power of a dedicated community working together to foster student success. As I've learned more about Sunnyvale, it has become abundantly clear that the values deeply embedded within this district—a commitment to excellence, a nurturing environment, and a strong partnership between schools and families—resonate deeply with my own personal and professional philosophy. I know that together, we can build upon these strengths and achieve remarkable things for our students.

My shared vision with the Board of Education for the Sunnyvale School District is rooted in collaboration and a shared commitment to our children's future. I am excited to meet each of you, to hear your perspectives, and to understand what makes this community so special. My goals as your Superintendent include empowering our staff and students by providing the resources and support they need to inspire learning and ensure every student feels valued, challenged, and prepared for their future; empowering our families by ensuring they feel heard, informed, and actively involved in their children’s educational journey; expanding community partnerships to enrich our students’ experiences; and fostering open communication to ensure that information is easily accessible and that all voices are heard and respected. 

I am excited to connect with many of you in the weeks and months ahead, whether at school events, community gatherings, or through direct conversations so we can continue building a strong future together.

The energy and potential within the Sunnyvale School District are truly inspiring, and I am incredibly excited for an amazing school year ahead.

Es un inmenso honor y un profundo entusiasmo que me presento como su nuevo Superintendente. Mi nombre es Dr. Gudiel R. Crosthwaite y estoy encantado de unirme a esta vibrante comunidad. Soy nuevo en Sunnyvale, traigo conmigo una gran experiencia, ya que me desempeñé como Superintendente del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Lynwood en el sur de California durante los últimos ocho años.

Durante mi estancia en Lynwood, fui testigo de primera mano del poder de una comunidad dedicada que trabaja en conjunto para fomentar el éxito de los estudiantes. Mis objetivos como su Superintendente incluyen empoderar a nuestro personal y estudiantes brindándoles los recursos y el apoyo que necesitan para inspirar el aprendizaje y garantizar que cada estudiante se sienta valorado, desafiado y preparado para su futuro; empoderar a nuestras familias asegurándonos de que se sientan escuchadas, informadas y activamente involucradas en el viaje educativo de sus hijos; ampliar las asociaciones comunitarias para enriquecer las experiencias de nuestros estudiantes; y fomentar la comunicación abierta para garantizar que la información sea fácilmente accesible y que todas las voces sean escuchadas y respetadas.

Estoy emocionado de conectarme con muchos de ustedes en las próximas semanas y meses, ya sea en eventos escolares, reuniones comunitarias o mediante conversaciones directas para que podamos continuar construyendo un futuro sólido juntos.
