Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Alisha Zare
Hi! My name is Alisha Zare and this is my 10th year teaching (5th year at Cumberland). I've taught 3rd-5th grades, with the most recent years on the fabulous 4th-grade team. I love teaching upper elementary since students are gaining independence, growing in their self-awareness, and excited about learning new things. Sixty+ years ago, my grandma taught in a one-room schoolhouse. Just like my mom and aunt who also were elementary educators, I've been following in their footsteps.
My journey began at Sonoma State University where I received my BA in Liberal Studies, multiple subject credential, and single subject math credential. A few years later, I completed my Master's Degree in Interdisciplinary Education from Santa Clara University, with an emphasis in STEEM (Science, Technology, Environmental Education, and Math). My teaching style comes from the view that we learn best when we are "coached" whether academically, socially, in the classroom, or outside the classroom. Our class recipe is part curiosity, part goal-setting and reflection, part skill building, and a heavy dash of humor and playfulness! Learning should be fun and driven by our curiosities. Outside the classroom, you'll find me reading a good book, hiking at Rancho San Antonio, playing in an adult sports' league (soccer, basketball, or volleyball), or exploring all the Bay Area has to offer.
