9.20.2026 Superintendent's Weekly Message

Dear Sunnyvale Families,

Last week, we were honored to welcome more than 240 community members at Columbia Middle School on September 15th for our Community Kick-Off as we begin the work of Shaping Sunnyvale 2030. The evening built on the student visioning sessions we held earlier this month and gave us another important opportunity to listen — to our students, families, staff, and community.

I want to thank everyone who joined us and shared their hopes, experiences, and ideas for the future of Sunnyvale. I am also grateful to the staff who made the evening possible. This work cannot belong to one person or one group. The vision for Sunnyvale must be something we shape together, with our students at the center.

If you were unable to attend, I encourage you to review the full presentation. Slides 31 and 32 provide a summary of the input we collected that evening, and you can already begin to see some of the priorities and areas of interest taking shape. But we are only getting started.

Beginning on slide 24, you will also find several ways to stay involved, including the Promise Family Fellowship, the Promise Team, community surveys, and two additional community events later this year. I hope you will continue to lend your voice to this process. More information is also available on our website.

I also want to share an exciting development! This week, Sunnyvale Middle School (SMS) celebrated the groundbreaking for phase 2 of campus modernization. During the groundbreaking ceremony, Sanaa, an 8th grader at SMS, shared about how student voice was incorporated in the design process and how that voice is coming to life as the project breaks ground. That is what our Sunnyvale Promise should look like in practice: not simply listening to students, but allowing their voices to shape the decisions we make.

We are deeply grateful to the Sunnyvale community for believing in our schools and investing in our students through Bond Measure C. That support is making this work possible, and we look forward to keeping you updated as the project moves forward.

Looking ahead, we are excited for our State of the District on October 2nd at San Miguel Elementary School. If you’re curious about learning more about our academic progress, wins throughout the year, challenges ahead, and more - I invite you to join us!

I look forward to continuing to meet Our Promise and making Sunnyvale a place where every student, every day feels known, supported, and ready to succeed.

Sincerely,

Superintendent Crosthwaite Addressing Audience

Atentamente,
