Dear Sunnyvale Families,

Last weekend, the City of Sunnyvale held its State of the City and the Sunnyvale Education Foundation (SEF) earned the Mayor’s Award of Excellence! The award reflects SEF’s commitment to enriching public education across our district by providing students with support, including grants to STEAM and arts programs, outdoor education, and school resources. Congratulations to SEF on the award and thank you for the work you do in supporting our students. If you would like to learn more about SEF, visit the SEF Website or join us at the State of the District on October 2 at San Miguel Elementary School.

I also wanted to provide an update on our progress in engaging our community to Shape Sunnyvale 2030. In case you were unable to join us at our Community Kick-Off, we developed a video recap with information about the event and an outline of some of the next steps in the process. I invite you to watch it!

If you are interested, applications for the Promise Team are still open and we are still looking for families, staff, and students to join. This team will meet for 8 in-person sessions between October and March to finalize the listening campaign, dig into real student data, and shape the recommendations that will become our priorities in the years ahead. Apply today if you are interested in this work.

I want to end by acknowledging Ms. Serafin from Columbia Middle School who was honored by RAFT as the STEM Teacher of the Year. She brings the Sunnyvale Promise to life through rigorous, joyful learning experiences that recognize every student’s strengths, nurture their curiosity and help them see new possibilities for their future. Students also shared with us what it was like having Ms. Serafin as a teacher. Congratulations, Ms. Serafin!

Thank you for continuing to work with us on meeting Our Promise and making Sunnyvale a place where every student, every day feels known, supported, and ready to succeed.

Sincerely,

Gudiel R. Crosthwaite, Ph.D.

Atentamente,

Gudiel R. Crosthwaite, Ph.D.
