Board Meeting Update
Highlights from the Meeting
To strengthen our communication and transparency with the community, we are introducing this new summary format to share important updates directly from the Board of Education. Our goal is to ensure every family stays informed about the decisions and reports that shape our students' experiences, keeping you connected to the progress we are making together.
The Sunnyvale School District held a Regular Board Meeting on February 5, 2026, to discuss several updates and initiatives affecting our community. Below is a summary of the key actions and reports from the session.
Interim Director of Student Achievement
The Board appointed Gloria Marchant as Interim Director of Student Achievement.
Student and Progress Reports
The Board received reports from Columbia and Sunnyvale Middle School students, a Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) mid-year update, and an equity analysis from Orenda Education consultants regarding our middle schools and student access to courses and programs.
Calendar and Holiday Updates
The 2026-2027 school year calendar was approved, which included a resolution to move the observance of the Lincoln Day holiday in 2027 from February 12 to February 16.
Safety and Privacy Policies
Several board policies were updated or approved to reflect recent changes in state law taking effect March 1, including SB 98. These updates address the Comprehensive Safety Plan, student record privacy, and the district’s response to immigration enforcement, ensuring our practices remain compliant while continuing to protect the safety, rights, and well-being of our students and families.
Community Recognition
A resolution was passed to recognize African American History Month in alignment with the district's "Sunnyvale Promise".
Financial and Operational Oversight
The Board accepted the 2024-2025 annual financial and bond audit reports and reviewed the School Accountability Report Cards (SARC).
