We are excited to announce the formation of a new Staff AI Task Force for the 2025-2026 school year, a dedicated group of approximately 20 school district staff members who will thoughtfully help guide the District's strategy for artificial intelligence (AI). Its primary goal is to implement a human-centered approach by building AI literacy and readiness among both staff, students, and families, ensuring our district is prepared to effectively and responsibly utilize AI as a powerful educational tool.
Over the course of the 2025-2026 school year, this diverse group of teachers (both general education and special education), classified staff, and management members will focus on several key areas:
- Define how we equip students and educators with the critical thinking skills needed to consume and utilize AI in ethical and responsible ways.
- Consider how the principles of AI literacy and readiness align with the key characteristics outlined in Sunnyvale’s Portrait of a Learner/Strategic Plan
- Identify adult-focused AI use case examples (productivity, personalized instruction, and ethics) that enhance instructional efficiency and effectiveness.
- Make recommendations regarding acceptable use guidelines for staff and students to inform District administrative regulations and board-level policy.
- Develop implementation recommendations, including integration with existing District initiatives.
- Support development of engagement strategies, including awareness campaigns (e.g., newsletters, family engagement).
The work of this task force is critical to ensuring we equip our students and educators with the critical thinking skills necessary for ethical and responsible AI use. We believe that by thoughtfully integrating AI, we can enhance learning experiences and prepare our students for a rapidly evolving world.
We look forward to sharing updates on their progress throughout the school year.
