Lakewood Lions become “foodwise” through CUESA

First graders from Ms. Gresback’s class at Lakewood Elementary had the opportunity to visit the Ferry Building farmer’s market in San Francisco to participate in the Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture’s (CUESA) Foodwise Kids program!

Students learned about California growing seasons, sampled fresh veggies, explored the market and shopped for ingredients to make a healthy snack!

They completed a worksheet that encourages them to meet farmers and learn more about their food and how it is grown. Since the Foodwise Kids program launched in fall of 2012, more than 5,596 students from local public elementary schools have participated.

Foodwise Kids is a free program for elementary school classes that uses the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market as a classroom for empowering the next generation of healthy eaters.
