Columbia Middle School held its first joint English Learner Advisory Committee/Parent Teacher Student Association (ELAC/PTSA) meeting of the school year on Wednesday evening (September 15, 2021) in the school library. The event was well-attended by around 40 CMS community members. At the meeting, Principal Daniel Poo detailed his School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) goal for English learners for the 2021-2022 School Year. After a question and answer session, the goal was unanimously approved. In addition to the SPSA session, the Family Engagement Institute presented information about a parenting class they are offering in conjunction with Foothill College. The Columbia Neighborhood Center presented about fall classes for students and parents.
After a year of Zoom meetings, it was amazing to see so many people attend an in-person ELAC/PTSA session. We hope that this strong start continues and together we can strengthen the partnership between the school and the community.
