SSD Board of Education passes resolution reaffirming the District's commitment to safe, inclusive schools

At its meeting on September 18, 2025, the Sunnyvale School District (SSD) Board of Education unanimously approved Resolution #R26-08: Reaffirming Sunnyvale’s Commitment to Safe, Inclusive Schools for All Students and Staff.

This resolution underscores the District’s ongoing dedication to fostering safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environments that respect and celebrate every student and staff member. In alignment with California’s FAIR Education Act (SB 48), SSD ensures Fair, Accurate, Inclusive, and Respectful representations in its curriculum—including LGBTQIA+ history, disability visibility, multilingual experiences, and culturally responsive instruction—across grade levels.

The resolution highlights SSD’s efforts to engage families and support staff in its vision to provide opportunities for students to grow in empathy, understanding, and belonging alongside their peers, and to ensure that no child’s safety, identity, or experience is diminished due to fear, discomfort, or misunderstanding.

“Our responsibility is to ensure every child feels safe, valued, and included at school,” said Dr. Gudiel R. Crosthwaite, Superintendent. “This resolution reaffirms our belief that equity, inclusion, and belonging are at the heart of student learning and well-being.”

Through this resolution, SSD pledges to:

• Present families each year with a positive, student-centered vision of inclusive education.
• Provide strong training and resources for educators to confidently implement inclusive curriculum.
• Ensure diverse representation remains integral to equity and inclusion efforts.
• Continue measuring and reporting on student safety, belonging, and inclusion.

Board President Bridget Watson added, “This resolution reflects our unwavering commitment that the dignity of every student and staff member will never be compromised. Inclusion is not an option—it’s a value we live every day.”
