Sunnyvale Middle School (SMS) is a California Gold Ribbon School and National Blue Ribbon School located in an ethnically diverse suburban area in the City of Sunnyvale in Santa Clara County, California. Sunnyvale Middle School serves a population of 1200 students in grades 6, 7, and 8. Sunnyvale is generally considered to be a middle-income community, largely residential, surrounded by a variety of retail businesses and Silicon Valley high-tech companies. Four elementary schools, Ellis, Vargas, Cherry Chase, and Cumberland, feed into Sunnyvale Middle School. The school site focuses on supporting the whole student with challenging academics, social-emotinal supports and extracurricular opportunities.

The City of Sunnyvale Department of Library and Community Services is offering a NEW Afterschool Basketball program to the SMS students. The first session of afterschool basketball will begin November 5-December 13 from 3:20-4:50 p.m. and classes are T/Th or W/F at the SMS outdoor basketball courts. Registration is required prior to the first day of classes. Registration deadline is Friday, November 1st by 5:30 p.m.
Back by popular demand the City of Sunnyvale Department of Library and Community Services is offering afterschool tennis to SMS students. The first session of afterschool Tennis will begin September 17 – October 25 from 3:20-4:50 p.m. and classes are T/Th or W/F at the SMS tennis courts. Registration is required prior to the first day of classes. Registration deadline is Friday, September 13 by 5:30 p.m. An on-line emergency card and waiver is also required and will be emailed out to registered participants 3-5 days prior to the start of classes.
