    KLAS Program

Kids Learning After School (KLAS) provides a safe and enriching environment for students to receive help with academic, physical, and arts enrichment activities, which are based on the needs and interests of participating students at seven school sites within the District: Bishop, Ellis, Fairwood, Lakewood, San Miguel, and Vargas Elementary schools and Columbia Middle School.  Students are welcome to join KLAS to improve academic achievement and self-esteem and enjoy the fun and enriching learning activities.

The program is partially funded through a grant from the After School Education and Safety Program (ASES) and all students are eligible to participate based on availability and teacher recommendation.

    KLAS program goals include:

    • Supporting student academic achievement to meet state standards
    • Increasing self-esteem and improving life skills
    • Offering positive interaction in a safe and enriching environment
If you are interested in enrolling your student into the KLAS Program for the 2024-2025 school year, swing by the main office and pick up an application.

6th Grade and New Student Orientation

If your student is an incoming 6th-grade student or is new to CMS, please join us for a parent/guardian/student informational session at 5:30pm on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024, in the Multipurpose Room at CMS (next to the cafeteria on the main quad).

For 6th grade and students new to CMS in 7th and 8th grade, there will be an orientation from 8am to noon on Friday, August 9, 2024. The students will meet up in the CNC gym (the largest gym at the north end of campus on Morse Avenue). If you are new to our school there will be plenty of people around to point you in the right direction!

On the afternoon of 6th Grade Orientation, we will be holding another parent/guardian/student informational session at 5:30pm again in Multipurpose Room at CMS. The information presented will be the same as the presentation on April 10th, but with updates and new information added if needed.

Here are the slides from the parent/guardian/student Informational session on April 10th in the multipurpose room.
