    Message from Principal

    Dear CMS Families,

We hope this message finds you well! As we kick off the month of May, we wanted to share a few important updates with you.

This week, we are beginning our California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) testing window, starting with the California Spanish Assessment (CSA). Only students enrolled in Spanish language courses will take the CSA, and they will complete the assessment during their regularly scheduled Spanish classes.
The CSA is an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their growth and skills in Spanish language development over the course of the year.

In addition to testing, we will also be sending home student progress reports and NWEA reports this week. Progress reports provide a snapshot of your student's academic progress so far this trimester. While the NWEA reports provide you with progress for the year in English, Math, and Spanish and are an indicator of how students may perform on the CAASPP.  To learn more about the NWEA assessments and how they support student learning, we encourage you to visit the NWEA Family Toolkit.

As always, your support makes a big difference! Please help your students do their best by encouraging a good night's sleep, a healthy breakfast, and arriving to school on time each day.

Thank you for partnering with us to help every student succeed!

    Open House

We're thrilled to share an update about Open House! To ensure everyone can fully participate, Mr. Mendoza has rescheduled our choir, band and orchestra performances at various times during Open House. Now, every family can explore classrooms, while still having the opportunity to watch their students perform live. So please join us on Wednesday, May 21st, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:00pm.

    AVID Corner

On Friday, April 25th, the CMS AVID program put on our second annual CMS Career Day for 7th and 8th grade students.  Students who attended the Career Fair had the opportunity to speak with a Pediatrician, a lawyer, a transportation planner, a journalist, and more! They met with a plumber and got to hold a giant plumbing wrench, they worked out with a fitness instructor, looked over maps with a transportation planner, and more! The CMS Career Day aligns with AVID’s commitment to providing students with Opportunity Knowledge–information about what is possible for their future if they study hard and follow through on their goals.

This is the last week to submit applications for next year’s AVID classes at CMS. If your student is interested in applying, encourage them to turn in their applications and get a teacher recommendation before Friday, May 2nd.
