The developmental assets are the building blocks of healthy development that help young people grow up healthy, caring, and responsible.  Our CICO program specifically addresses the following assets: The young person receives support from non-parent adults.  The school provides a caring, encouraging environment.  The school provides clear rules and consequences.  Parents are actively involved in helping the child succeed in school.  Both parents and teachers encourage the young person to do well.

   

A Cherry Chase student recommended for our CICO program is first paired with a mentor teacher.  Then the classroom teacher and mentor teacher work together to provide clear behavioral and academic expectations for the student each week.  The student checks in daily with the mentor teacher at the start of the school day for encouragement and a weekly goal sheet.  The classroom teachers provide the students with feedback on the goal sheet throughout the day.  The student checks out at the end of the day with the mentor teacher.  The mentor teacher helps the student reflect on the day and provides praise for meeting the goal or encouragement if the goal was not met.  The goal sheet is taken home each Friday for parent review and signature and incentives are provided when goals are met.  If you feel your child could benefit from the CICO program, please discuss this possibility with your child's classroom teacher.
