Principles of Positive Discipline

  • At Fairwood Explorer, we focus on being “Safe, Respectful, and Responsible”. Staff and parents use Positive Discipline to provide a methodology for teaching specific strategies that support these expectations.

We embrace the five key principles of Positive Discipline. We believe discipline should

    • Be kind but firm.
    • Focus on belonging and significance.
    • Utilize tools that work long-term.
    • Teach valuable social and life skills.
    • Develop children’s sense of capability.

Positive Discipline strives to help children learn from mistakes in a way that doesn’t shame them. We teach them that feelings matter. We want to build compassionate, resilient children with great communication skills.
